Young Carers - Reading Crossroads also recognises that many young people have a caring role within a family situation where there is someone who is disabled or with a long-term illness. Young Carers often miss out on schooling, social events or normal activities due to their role. This may involve helping the person with a disability to wash, take a bath or shower, go to the toilet, go shopping, cook or do laundry. Young Carers also miss out on the opportunities that other children take for granted through lack of finance or transport and time.

Reading Crossroads Young Carers aims to...
  • Relieve stress on Young Carers and their families
  • Help Young Carers to have time to themselves
  • Provide information and support
  • Initiate practical help and
  • Raise awareness in the community of the existence of Young Carers, their needs and wishes.
